Every weekend, thousands of volunteers helped rescue good food before it went to waste and deliver it to shelters, churches, schools and community centers across New York. As the organization grew past 10,000 volunteers, the team needed its first digital product to move beyond manual coordination. The challenge was turning a very hands-on volunteer operation into something simple, fun and engaging on a screen. I helped shape a mobile-first web app that allowed new volunteers to sign up for future shifts, choose roles like packing, sorting and delivery and understand how to take part.
On the admin side, the product helped the team manage shifts, roles, capacity and the moving pieces behind each volunteer day. I worked on the creative direction and core product flows, helping make the process easier to join, manage and scale.
